The Site of the Excavation

The excavation site is located in a remote area of central Alabama. In order to maintain the integrity of the site, as well as to prevent possible looting, the exact location will be provided only to family members of the participants once the registration fee has been paid.

Initial site investigations found pottery sherds primarily affiliated with a Historic Creek occupation, however, several specimens contained tempering agents and decorations consistent with those of late Mississippian manifestations in the Coosa and Tallapoosa valleys.

Nearby sites have uncovered evidence of occupation back as far as the Woodland Period about 2,500 years ago.

Excavation and analysis of the site will be completed in compliance with accepted archaeological procedures.
