Amphibians and Reptiles

A teacher and her students discovered deformed frogs in the Midwest and created a new understanding of the effects of pollution. Your students can also work with, learn from, and even teach scientists about their local environment. These creatures are good indicators of the health of ecosystems. Use these sites to involve your students in the study of these interesting animals!

Birds

I started drawing and learning about birds as a child and it helped me develop a life long love of nature. Turn your students into bird lovers by establishing bird feeders, baths, and habitats. Learn how to bring birds to your school and right up to your classroom window on these great sites.

Butterfly study

Many of you already work with butterflies. For those of you considering developing a project, I recommend a butterfly garden for several reasons. Many scientists are concerned about mixing the genetic pools of native and cultivated butterflies. A garden emphasizes the relationship between plants and insects. A garden will provide students the opportunity of seeing butterflies in all stages of development at various times of the year. Here are many sites to explore.
