Archaeology

Why Teach Project Archaeology?

The tangible links to America's past are rapidly disappearing due to development, neglect, and vandalism. Project Archaeology is an educational program designed by the Bureau of Land Management to:

  • teach young Americans to value and protect our rich cultural heritage.
  • strengthen children's sense of personal responsibility for the stewardship of American's cultural heritage.
  • use the vast historic and archaeological resources under the custody of the Bureau of Land Management to support the education of America's children.

Audience

Project Archaeology targets classroom teachers, scout leaders and museum educators. Regional Project Archaeology facilitators provide training and mentoring to local educators, who in turn introduce archaeology in the classroom.
