Newsletter - 2008 Concert #1

Memorial Day weekend is almost upon us and what better place to celebrate than under the stars at McClellan? Kick off the evening with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra playing the Star Spangled Banner and Liberty Fanfare and, to honor our veterans, join us in the Armed Forces Salute. A special addition this year will be a rendition of Casey at the Bat narrated by our very own Robby Hester. Longleaf Park opens at 6 pm on Saturday evening, May 24th, and the music begins at 8 pm.

Introducing Robbie Hester
It’s Memorial Day weekend in Longleaf Park! There are picnics, juggling, patriotic music, flag waving, and baseball stories. In fact, Alabama’s winningest baseball coach, Rudy Abbott, has introduced to Music at McClellan a young man of many talents - Robbie Hester. Robbie is in the sixth grade at Kitty Stone Elementary School where he serves as student body president. He plays the piano and trumpet, as well as baseball with Jacksonville PARD. During the show, Robbie will join the ASO as narrator for one of the world’s greatest baseball stories: “Casey at the Bat.” We’re sure Robbie’s performance will be a Home Run!

Weather
Current weather predictions for this weekend still look favorable for a lovely evening at Longleaf Park. If that slight chance of rain has you nervous, you can purchase our Anytime Tickets -- this package of 4 tickets can be used in any combination for any concert and is a great value besides. With our Anytime Package you can purchase 4 tickets for the price of 3.

Concert Events
Come early and enjoy the evening with friends. Ron Anglin will return to wow audiences with his juggling skills and Anniston's own strolling minstrel, Jim Marsh, returns to serenade picnickers in the park.

Picnic Options
A Music at McClellan tradition is a picnic in the park. Check out the picnic tips on the website or send us a photo and your favorite recipes and we'll post them online. Don't feel like fixing your own, but still want dinner in the park? The 19th Hole at Cane Creek (www.canecreekgolf.com) will offer box dinners with concert-goers in mind. They will be joined on site by Dad's BBQ, Big Pappy's Kitchen, CJ's Chuckwagon, Quizno's and the Courthouse Cafe. What could be easier?
