Deep Canyon Hike
This is our most challenging hike of the year!  Join JSU's Kelly Gregg and Dr. Jonathon Herbert for an unforgettable view of one of Alabama’s natural wonders, Little River Canyon.  The hike requires sturdy footwear, tough clothing, plenty of drinking water, lunch, snacks, stamina, and endurance.  It’s an experience of a lifetime!  Pre-registration is required. Transportation available for a limited number of early registrants. EDU's available for teachers upon request.

  Natural Journaling Hike:
    An Artsy Stroll Through the Forest

Want to keep track of the plants and flowers you see on your hikes? Here's a fun way to start or expand a personal nature journal. Artists Sarah Landrum will discuss how to preserve visual impressions through drawings and close observation. Pitt Harding, of JSU's English Department, will share samples from the writings of William Bartram, Thoreau, and other observers of nature. Dr. Mijitaba Hamissou, of JSU's Biology Department, will be identifying spring wildflowers on this easy going hike at the base of Dugger Mountain Wilderness. No drawing or writing experience necessary. Bring a sketchbook or journal and drawing materials such as pencils, colored pencils, or small watercolor boxes. Also bring drinking water and snacks or lunch. Pre-registration is required. CEU's available upon request.

  Pinhoti Trail Hike:  Dugger Mountain Wildflowers
Dugger Mountain is one of Alabama's highest and most beautiful places.  Take a moderate-strenuous level hike with Dugger Mountain founders, Francine and Bruce Hutchinson. As spring unfolds amidst giant hardwoods, steep mountainsides, and tranquil, crystal-clear streams. Hikers should bring a daypack with food and water. Sturdy footwear and proper clothing are recommended. Pre-registration is required.

Randolph County Granite Outcrop Hike
Celebrate Earth Day with Dan Spaulding, botanist and Curator of Collections at the Anniston Museum, by traveling to Almond Granite Outcrop in Randolph County. This moon-like rolling granite outcrop comes alive with a pallet of color and texture of spring wildflowers, mosses and lichens. Meet at the Anniston Museum of Natural History. Arrive at the outcrop at noon for a picnic lunch and then a hike. Bring a picnic lunch and drink. Moderate hike. Reservations are required by April 19th. Contact the museum at (256) 237-6766. Bilingual Spanish-English Hike
    (¡para los personas hablas Espanol!)

Acompanenos a una caminata en el Parque Estatal de Soto y Canon de Rio Pequeno.  Conducido principalmente en espanol, esta no muy dificultosa caminata en senderos bien mantenidos les dara una introduccion a la geologia, arquelogia e historia local junto con plantas natives.  Este evento esta conducido por dos natives hispano-hablantes y por quienes estan en el proceso de aprendizaje del idioma espanol.
