Although Little River Canyon may be one of the
most beautiful places in the world, careless acts have caused
injuries and even the death of some visitors. As part
of this safety program, National Park Staff will share stories
of the rescues and deaths that occur every year in and around
Alabama's deepest gorge. |

Ecology
Join United States Forest Service biologists and JSU Field School
experts for an interesting hour of educational fun at Coleman Lake
Recreational Area in the Talladega National Forest. Take advantage
of the beautiful location and camp for the weekend! Family friendly.

“Explore Our World”
JSU Advanced
Kids Into Nature Camp (Ages 7 – 9)
Participants for this camp must have completed JSU Nature Camp introduction.
Led by JSU Field School coordinator, Renee Morrison and her field
assistants, campers will build on the knowledge they’ve gained
in past camps by traveling to various locations between the deepest
canyon and the highest mountain in Alabama. Field trips potentially
include Chattanooga Children’s Museum, Little River Canyon,
DeSoto State Park, Talladega National Forest, Cheaha State Park,
and SIFAT Global Village. Hands-on science, art and experiences
with live animals make this camp an incredible experience. Campers
build their own memory journal and will be given a photo slide show
disk at the end of camp to share with their families. This camp
is limited to ten lucky campers…so register early!

and sent to Oklahoma on this infamous trek. JSU geologist Kelly

Native American Pottery Workshop
Join expert potter, Tammy Beane, to learn how pottery was made on
Lookout Mountain thousands of years ago. We’ll provide the clay
as well as bone needles and paddles to make designs on your pots.
A handout will be provided detailing the firing techniques discussed

An evening program geared toward introducing children to local environmental
issues. Topics will include rare plants and animals, clean water,
