When you look at a stream, river or lake, there may be a thousand eyes looking back at you from beneath the surface. Join JSU Ichthyologist Dr. Mark Meade to find out! He’ll take you out to explore several different aquatic habitats in the Talladega National Forest where you will assist him with seign/netting and electroshock techniques to find a diverse collection of fish species.

This is a special nature camp sponsored by Alabama Gas Corporation, Calhoun County Commissioner Pappy Dunn, USFS, and JSU Field Schools to promote scientific exploration and nature awareness to inner city children.

“Explore Our World” JSU Kids Introduction to
    Nature Camp (Ages 7 – 10)

This is an exciting introductory camp which has been so popular in past years that it fills by February, so please register early! Space is limited. JSU Field School coordinator, Renee Morrison, and her assistants, Clifford Webb and Sara Viernum, will be leading these exciting adventures into the natural world. This program prepares students to enter into the advanced adventure camp.

Archaeology of Our Local National Parks
The area around LIttle River Canyon and Lookout Mountain has revealed a number of rock shelters, tools, weapons, and human remains. National Park interpreter Larry Beane will share his vast knowledge of these sites and the importance of their preservation.
